Now, go to the "Teach Yourself" page and download from an absolutely marvelous selection of documents that help you become a real GIS Expert. 

But there is more if you may want to do to improve your functionality. Tens of thousands of loyal ILWIS users have purchased an ILWIS 3.3 Academic license in the past, or received one as an ITC alumnus. ILWIS 3.3 Academic in fact had a number of components that were obtained under license agreements between the ITC and certain commercial GIS vendors. Those components needed to be taken out when ILWIS became open source. However, ILWIS 3.3 Academic is still available, and we highly recommend that you also download ILWIS 3.3 Academic and install it additionally in a different directory. So go through the same procedure as for ILWIS3.6, but now call your directory "ilwis3.3" (either C:\program files\ilwis3.3 of D:\ilwis3.3 ) and call your shortcut file "ILWIS 3.3 and also drag it into your start menu. This will allow you to work with both versions simultaneously, which will be tremendously useful if you have to import files from different formats, particularly images in for instance .img format as used by ERDAS IMAGINE. 

Important: Ilwis 3.3 only works permanently with the license code patch, which must be downloaded here:

From our statistics, we can see that many users forget to download this patch. So, after downloading ILWIS 3.3, please don't forget to download the patch.  

After you have installed your ILWIS 3.3, Place the patch (patch331.exe) in your ilwis3.3 directory and click on it to install the patch. You can use your ILWIS3.3 simultaneously with your ILWIS3.6.

You will be inclined to send us an email, but DON'T. We are very busy and don't respond often to support open source GIS ILWIS questions. The forum is where ILWIS users help each other and your chances are much better to get a response from the Forum:. 

We highly recommend that you also subscribe to the ILWIS support group at https://52north.org/mailman/listinfo/ilwis. It hosts answers to many questions and enrolls you to ILWIS question-and-answer emails.
