VECTORIZE A RASTER MAPThe Raster to segments operation extracts segments from the boundaries of mapping units in a raster map. There are many needs for this application. We needed it to generate the elevation lines from the elevation model. In the navigator open the directory where your map is. In the main menu chose Operations>Vectorize>Raster to Segment: A dialog box appears: Find your input map, and you probably like to mark "connect 8" and "smooth lines" and give a good descriptive file name for your output map. When you click the Show button, the dependent output map will be defined, calculated and shown. If you want to work with this map, you may want to break the dependency. When you click the Define button, the dependent output map will only be defined; if necessary, the map will be calculated later, for instance when the map is opened to be displayed. When you wish to obtain Unique names for extracted segments, an attribute table will be automatically created for the output map (same name as output map). The table will contain the names of the mapping units to the right and to the left of an extracted segment and the length of each extracted segment. Both the map and the attribute table will then use a UniqueID domain. The unique names or the single name for the output segments are always stored by the output map (internal domain).
