DOWNLOAD ILWIS 3.4, THE
USER-FRIENDLY OPEN SOURCE RASTER AND VECTOR GIS
NEW SIMPLIFIED WAY TO INSTALL YOUR PROGRAMME
Currently, ILWIS 3.4 only
runs on Microsoft software from Windows 98 and higher. Click the download yellow
button
to download your free copy of open source GIS ILWIS 3.4:
Free ILWIS 3.4
made available for downloading by The World Institute for Conservation and Environment
Your ILWIS
3.4 comes as a zipfile. (This is a new file
that includes the helpfile) If not yet installed on your computer, get this WINZIP
to open your copy of the world's most user-friendly GIS, ILWIS 3.4. When the file has been
downloaded,
create a directory "ILWIS" as a subdirectory on
your C drive in C:\program files\ilwis, or if you have a separate partition you
can make a directory "ILWIS" in your separate partition and place your
zipfile in that new directory (example: D:\ilwis). Extract all your data from the zipfile into the
new directory, and look for a file "ilwis30.exe". Right click on that
file and choose "Create a Shortcut". You will now find a new file
"Shortcut to ilwis30.exe". Right click again and choose rename. Rename
this file "ILWIS 3.4". This is your shortcut file for your Start Menu. If you press it, it
will start ILWIS 3.4. You still need this file as a button in your Start Menu.
Just press in lightly and drag it into your startbutton to the place where you
want it and let it go. If you click on it, your ILWIS 3.4 will start right away.
Congratulations!
You are now the proud owner of a legal copy of a fully
functioning high end integrated vector and raster GIS programme with which you can carry out more
applications than you will ever be able to dream up in your entire life time! Enjoy
the world's most user-friendly GIS!
Now, go to the
"Teach Yourself" page and download from an absolutely marvelous selection of
documents that help you become a real GIS Expert.
We got a message that there is an ILWIS
website in Farsi at: http://www.iranhydrology.com/. We can't read it and we saw no documents for downloading, nor an email, but if
you speak Farsi, we recommend you check it out. If the website owner sees this
message, please contact us.
The file that is now available
replaces previous methods and solves an issue that caused the programme to ask
for a registration code. Moreover, you no longer have to install your help-file,
as it comes pre-installed with the programme. We recommend everybody to acquire
the new file and re-install the programme to prevent problems.
Tens of thousands of loyal ILWIS users
have purchased an ILWIS license in the past, or received one as an ITC alumnus.
ILWIS 3.3 in fact had a number of components that were obtained under license
agreements between the ITC and certain commercial GIS vendors. Those components
needed to be taken out when ILWIS went open source. For those who have a license
code, we recommend that you continue to use ILWIS 33. We have the ILWIS 3.3 file
available here:
ILWIS 3.3 is valid without a license
code for 30 days. after that you need to install your license code.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM?
You will be inclined to send us an
email, but DON'T. We are very busy and don't respond often to support ILWIS
questions. The forum is where ILWIS users help each other and your chances are
much better to get a response from there.
We recommend that you also subscribe to
the ILWIS support group at https://52north.org/mailman/listinfo/ilwis.
It hosts answers to many questions and enrolls you to ILWIS question-and-answer
emails.
So what is the email on the bottom-left
for? For questions and comments related to the website design, if you would want us to organize a custom made
training course or if you want to volunteer on translating parts of the help
file.
We look for volunteer translators
The user-friendliness of ILWIS would be
increase enormously if we could provide versions in other languages. Since ILWIS
is open source, there is no funding for the translation of the help files.
therefore, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to translate the text
of the help-file. If you want to volunteer, please contact us.
